From the Polls to the Ballot: Why I’m Running for Congress in TN6
Not long ago, seated behind a folding table, I had a front row seat to witness democracy in action.
During the last election, I served as a poll worker here in Tennessee. I spent the day checking IDs, helping neighbors navigate the machines, and handing out “I Voted” stickers. I loved that role because it was about service in its purest form, ensuring that each and every voice in the 6th District was heard.
Recently, I received a letter asking if I would work the polls again. It was a moment that brought my journey full circle. This time, I had to decline for a very different reason.
This year, I won’t just be checking the ballots. I’ll be on them.
The Moment Service Became a Mission
I am amazed at how far this calling has taken me since that last election day. While I am thankful for this opportunity, I am also deeply dismayed. As a poll worker, I saw the best of us; the citizens showing up to do their duty. But, looking at the state of our country today, it’s clear our leadership isn’t meeting the standard that our citizens deserve.
We are living through a time of intense division, and I know the 6th District deserves better. We deserve leaders that understand the weight of the office, and what it means for the everyday lives of the citizens who put their trust in us.
What True Leadership Looks Like
My time at the polls reminded me that the government belongs to the people; not the other way around. As I run for Congress, these are the principles I’m carrying with me:
- Unity Over Division: True leaders should unite their people. They should build them up and defend them against attacks, not use rhetoric to tear us apart. It should be the people versus the problems, not the people versus the people
- Accountability: A representative shouldn’t need to be reminded who they work for. You are the boss; the person in Washington is the servant.
- Leading by Example: Integrity isn’t a campaign slogan; it’s a way of life. We need leaders who set a standard worth following.
A New Chapter for Middle Tennessee
I’m stepping out from behind the poll worker’s table because I believe we need a representative who views Congress with the same sense of civic duty that our volunteers feel on election morning.
I’ve seen the passion and the hope of TN-6 voters. Now, I’m asking for the honor of carrying that hope to Washington. Our democracy is worth fighting for, and it starts with leadership that actually listens.
Support the Campaign
This journey started at a local polling place, and it will be won with the passion and support of our communities. I want to tackle the problems that weigh down on our working class citizens, but I can’t do it alone. Whether you can donate, volunteer, or help spread our message through social media or word of mouth, every bit of support brings us closer to a government that works for everyone.
